There's a Change in the Weather ...

Reflecting on the Growing Season on Cape Ann

As the growing season on Cape Ann comes to a close, it's time to consider our plans for the winter months.

This year, my Bay Laurel is thriving in a large pot on a tray with rollers, safely tucked away in the living room until late February. Its fragrant leaves bring a touch of greenery to my indoor space during the colder months.

In the greenhouse, I'm pleased to see my rosemary starting to bloom, a sure sign that it's enjoying the protected environment, away from the harsh winter winds.

Each year, I find myself tempted to experiment with new seeds. Will I take the plunge this year? Perhaps not. We're still navigating which crops will thrive under our changing weather patterns. One thing is certain: I’ll be adding more mulch to help retain soil moisture and protect my plants.

Favorite items: Plant Caddy large enough for a very large pot

"Grasses" Blank Note Card

"Grasses" Blank Note Card

One is never too old to learn something new.

I am working on creating something every day toward an online business - maybe in card design, maybe fabric design, wallpaper. Each day it gets easier to select a subject, list several options and start drawing. The more I work at this the longer the list of possible subjects! Truly exciting! Makes me want to get my daily chores done so I can get back to designing.

Here it is - mid winter with 10" of snow by the door - and I am drawing wild flowers! This little watercolor has become a blank note card.
